세계적인 석학 노엄 촘스키(86) MIT 교수가 박근혜 대통령에게 강정 주민들에 대한 무력 행정대집행 중단을 호소하는 친서를 보냈다.
30일 한국정책연구소 연구원 시몬 천 정치학 박사에 따르면 촘스키 교수는 박 대통령 앞으로 제주 강정마을 해군기지 건설현장 농성장을 강제 철거하는 행정대집행을 중지해달라는 긴급 서한을 발송했다.
촘스키 교수는 "4만명 가까이 희생된 제주 학살 사건을 언급한 후 70년이 지난 오늘 비극과 같은 폭력의 역사가 제주도에 재현되고 있는 듯 하다며 강정에서 수천명의 용역과 경찰을 동원하여 평화 행동가들을 무력으로 해산시키려는 행정대집행을 중단할 것"을 박 대통령에게 요청했다.
그는 "1월31일 한국군의 지원을 받는 1천명이 넘는 용역과 경찰들이 마을 주민들과 평화 행동가들을 무력으로 해산시키는 행정대집행을 강행할 계획이라는 소식을 들었다"며 "강정 주민들에 대한 무력 행정대집행을 막아주길 진심으로 바란다"고 호소했다.
촘스키 교수는 "대통령님은 과거의 정책에서 벗어나 사회 화해와 통합으로 국민들을 이끌고 인권과 정의를 존중하겠다는 약속을 지켜주길 희망한다"며 "인도적인 원칙에서 1월31일 강정 주민들에 계획된 공격을 중지해달라"고 거듭 요청했다.<헤드라인제주>

Honorable President Park Geun-hye:
As you know, between 1948 and 1949, approximately, 40,000 residents in Jeju Island were massacred by South Korean army which was at the time under the control of the U.S. Interim Military Government. The massacre left more than 50 percent of homes in Jeju Island destroyed, 40,000 residents seeking refugee in Japan, and survivors, descendants, family members with tragic memories and trauma. More than 70 years later, the tragic and violent history seems to repeat in Jeju Island.
I have learned that on January 31, 2015, more than 1000 scabs and police force supported by the Korean army are expected to forcefully disband villagers and activists who have been engaging in a peaceful 24-hour protest in front of the construction site of the new housing for 3000 navy personnel. We respectfully request that you stop the planned attack on Gangjeong villagers by the Korean army and police. You had promised a departure from the iron-fisted policies of your predecessor, declaring your intention to lead the nation based on a policy of social consensus, respect for human rights, and justice. We hope that you keep your promise.
Please stop the planned attack on Gangejong villagers on January 31st based on humanitarian grounds.
